Location: A Blue State Rep Power: 12 ![]() ![]() | Man rides stolen car to Anderson County Sheriff’s Office a couple smart ones here ![]() An Anderson man rode into trouble when he parked a stolen convertible outside the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, went inside and demanded $1,991 that was seized in June after his arrest for trafficking methamphetamine. Susann Griffin, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, said Charles Noah Chambers made a second unsuccessful demand for the money about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and left. As Ms. Griffin watched Mr. Chambers drive away, she noticed him behind the wheel of a 1996 Saab, which was reported stolen between 5 p.m. Monday and 11:30 a.m. Tuesday on East Shockley Ferry Road. Sheriff’s Lt. W. F. Looper said he and other deputies rushed to catch up to the Saab at Whitehall and Woodcrest streets. When told to turn off the ignition, Lt. Looper said Mr. Chambers put “a screwdriver into the ignition switch,” according to the incident report. Mr. Chambers, 36, and his passenger, 52-year-old Susan Peace of Anderson, were arrested, according to the incident report. The $12,000 Saab was stolen from Cartee’s Used Cars, according to the sheriff’s office. After its recovery on Tuesday, Mr. Chambers and Ms. Peace were taken to the Anderson County Detention Center. An arrest warrant accuses Mr. Chambers of possessing/receiving stolen goods. He is also charged with driving with a suspended license and a vehicle tag violation. It’s his second brush with the legal system in about eight months. In June, deputies seized $1,991 from Mr. Chambers after he was seen riding on a stolen motor bike. After a foot chase, deputies also seized two plastic bags of meth, according to the report. Tuesday, Mr. Chambers did not have any drugs. But his companion did, authorities said. Two warrants were issued charging Ms. Peace with the possession of less than 1 gram of crack cocaine and the possession of a controlled substance, specifically six hydrocodone pills. She said that she had only accepted a ride from a man with “a nice car,” according to the report. Deputies found a check for $2,000 in her purse, a refund for a bond posted on a previous drug arrest, the report states. | ||||||||
