Drivers arrested for speeding at 141 mph

The Washington State Patrol says a trooper arrested two men speeding 141 mph on I-5 in Snohomish County. The patrol says the trooper thought he was hearing an airplane early Sunday as the cars whizzed by going north, a 2005 BMW 330i with a 2007 Honda Accord right behind.
The trooper caught up with the cars because they had stopped for a passenger from one of the cars to get into the other.
The 22-year-old driver of the BMW, and the 18-year-old driver of the Honda were booked into the Snohomish County Jail for charges of reckless driving.

I want to hear the fine on this one

Let's see.

A 22 year old with a two year old BMW and an 18 year old with a new Honda.

I see kids with more money than brains. The fine will probably be just pocket change. Give them six months community service instead. Perhaps cleaning up at crash sites where other stupid people weren't lucky enough to be stopped by a cop before they did themselves in.

I prefer "take their money and let Darwin sort them out"...

The problem with letting Darwin sort it out is that they may take someone with them that did not need to be sorted out. If we could be certain that only they would go when the gene pool was flushed, I'd agree with you.

What, like no one here ever went street racing in their 71 Chevelle SS 396? Maybe not 140mph, but then again, 160 isn't exactly "safer"!

hmmm...has Arch entered the PBXInfo confessional?

Since we're on it, Top speed was about 130mph with the cruise control set, but that was on the Autobahn. Even in my invincible days of youth, I considered much more than 115mph to be nuts on US roadways. We just don't keep our road surfaces in the condition they need to be in for those speeds. And we're all the poorer for it.

My highest was in the high 140s out in the desert - about as fast as my car will go.

Longest sustained was 105 for about 15 minutes coming back from up north on the I5. (Didn't realize I was going that fast, just keeping up with a Lexus in front of me and the person behind was keeping up with me)

Do Honda Accords come with tires rated to those speeds?

Over here the car manufacturer is obliged to supply the car with tyres that are rated beyond the maximum the car is capable of. Costs me over £100 ($200) each.

I5 north of Los Angeles is not watched that close by the Highway Patrol (at least it wasn't a few years ago) and I owned a Nissan 350ZX at that time. I was driving up to San Francisco and decided I wanted to see what the car would do so for about an hour I was cruising at about 120 (that is as high as the speedometer went). The car rode very smooth and handled well but I am sure that if something went wrong it would have been all over.

I finally slowed down for the rest of the trip but the funny thing was that while I was driving at 120, some cars were passing me. Not a lot, but the cars that passed were Ferrari's, Lamborgini's, and cars of that ilk.
