Well, there's no clear cut favorite this year. Every horse is a contender, otherwise they would not be entered (Yes, some are more worthy than others). Local buzz is almost non-existant. Horses I've heard mentioned by the local horsefolk are Zanjero, Storm in May, Any Given Saturday, Curlin and Tiago. Here's a link to the local newspaper's derby coverage:
http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/...ory=SPORTS0801 I suggest you pick three horses. One of the favorites, one in the middle of the betting picks and a long-ish shot. Don't get any fancy bets going, you just eliminate the chances of cashing in a nice little winning ticket. As my wise, old dad says, it's easier to pick one horse to win, place or show (getting three chances to have a winning wager) than to pick three horses to come in a specific order (getting one chance to win and a million chances someone can spoil it).
Keep in mind, the absolute favorite hardly ever wins. The Derby is a long race for these young colts and so very many of them have not shown their stamina in previous showings. You may be very pleasantly surprised by the long-ish shot coming down the homestretch. Just don't bet on the banana.
