Rep Power: 6 ![]() | It's quite possibly true- eh JID? Dakota News This text is from a county emergency manager out in the Western part of North Dakota after the recent snow storm. WEATHER BULLETIN Up here in the Northern Plains we just recovered from a Historic event---may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands. FYI: George Bush did not come. FEMA did nothing. No one howled for the government. No one blamed the government. No one even uttered an expletive on TV. Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit. Our Mayors did not blame Bush or anyone else. Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else either CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5 snow storm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards. No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House. No one looted. Nobody demanded the government do something. Nobody expected the government to do anything either. No Larry King, No Katie Couric, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera. No Sean Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found. And we just melted the snow for water. Sent out caravans of SUVs to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars. The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny. Local restaurants made food, and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snow bound families. Families took in the stranded people - total strangers. We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns. We put on an extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die". We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks. Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves. In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate. It does seem that way, at least to me. I hope this gets passed on. Maybe SOME people will get the message.... The world does Not owe you a living. __________________ Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're still here we may as well dance.

WHAT? What's the difference between a Blizzard and a Hurricane? Both are weather related right? Both happen only in certain parts of the United States right? We may not have a “season” up here for blizzards but we sort of feel that anytime after Halloween and up until Easter we could get a blizzard. We even have weather forecast people that can see a blizzard coming just like a hurricane. I will say though that a hurricane can be seen earlier than a blizzard. We don’t have to evacuate when we get a blizzard. Can you imagine the government telling us to go some were else during a blizzard? Can’t go to higher ground. When the blizzard leaves us we end up digging out. If I get dug out sooner than my neighbors I will help them. We have to wait for the plows to come by to be able to drive on the roads. Believe it or not, not all of us can afford a 4x4. Not having one makes it difficult to get around town. I will say if someone gets stuck 99% of the people will help push them out so they can be on there way. I would never think of taking money from someone I just helped. We do it because it’s the right thing to do. The article posted maybe a tad fictitious but basically it’s true. We do things up in this neck of the woods a little different. We care about the people around us and we welcome anyone. __________________ Fellas', I need more Cow Bell!

However, the destruction caused by Katrina is a little different. When the snow melts, your homes are still there. When the water receeded, theirs weren't. Still...one wonders what the outcome would have been if the attitude had been different.

Ok not quite but.........it's just easy to do the right thing. Sure a blizzard will cause some interruption in ones life but I expect that to happen I choose to live were I do. You take certain risk's living in certain areas. The people in New Orleans knew there was a Hurricane coming and some left and some stayed. They live in a city that is BELOW sea level that is sitting right next to a river and a very big lake. Um hello! That's a risk you take. Do I think the government should help all those people that lost there houses or there city? Sure to a point. But to rebuild again is taking a risk. It happened once it will happen again. __________________ Fellas', I need more Cow Bell!
