Cinema-goers in London pay up to three times more for movie tickets than film-buffs in other European capital cities, new research has revealed.
The survey, carried out by London Assembly's Liberal Democrats, found an adult ticket at Leicester Square can cost £12.45 more than in Europe.
The figures were published on the eve of the 50th London Film Festival.
More than 180 feature and 130 short films from 48 countries will be showing during the 16-day festival.

To see a film on Saturday night at a top cinema in Leicester Square costs £17.50 for an adult ticket, while the average cost for a similar show across 10 European capitals is just £4.95, the survey claims.
Dee Doocey, London assembly's Liberal Democrat Culture spokesperson said cinema is "becoming a luxury few can afford".
She added: "London topping the European price charts is just another case of 'rip-off' Britain. "Only here do you need to be earning almost as much as a Hollywood star to afford to see the latest flicks."

And then they wonder why there's a trade in pirate DVD's!

$1.00 = .5353 (GBP) {British Pound} so the movie ticket is about $32.70

About double what we pay - just about can't go to the movies for anything less than $20 around here.

Here it's £6 for a standard adult ticket. That's $11.40. After that you can add the popcorn and drinks. I usually reckon for 2 adults + 1 child plus drinks and sweets is about £25 ($47.50).

Got a 2nd run -- movies come to the place about 4-6 weeks after they open -- movie house here $3 per tickect and they refill soda and popcorn. Wee worth the wait.

Can go to the kids club on a saturday morning (for the animated movies) (as long as you take a kid with you) and it's £1.50 ($2.85) for the kid and you get in FREE.

I's about $8 CDN for a standard movie but you are up to the $30 mark once you add the goodies.
