Six or more points picked up during that time means the driver goes back to being a learner – not only do they have to apply for a new provisional licence, but they have to take their test again. As the new academic year gets underway at the region’s universities, the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety is taking this hard hitting message on the road. Young and newly qualified drivers are more at risk of being involved in a collision, with many resulting from excessive speeding. To keep points free, drivers need to keep within the law. There are many motoring offences which result not just in a financial penalty, but also come with the added problem of points. Traffic light offences can result in three points and a £1,000 fine, and excess speeding could result in a £1,000 fine and up to six points on a licence.

You get your L when you hit 16, then at 18, provided you've not picked up any points, you get your full on lisense. If you get 8 points, you're back to taking Driving Instruction. __________________ You can't wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you - Look, if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor, just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Sadly with the state of the system these days these people are pretty much let off the hook, there are fines and things of that nature handed out but I haven't heard of anyone being tossed in the clink for driving without a license.
