Location: San Diego, CA Rep Power: 6  Gender:  Country:   | English Soccer Fans I have always been wanting to ask this but can never remember to do so when I am talking to someone from Great Britain. A news item on CNN reminded me today and I believe we have some people on this list from that part of the world. The news services all treat English soccer fans as a bunch of hooligans whose only purpose in going to the World Cup is to break things and hurt people and this is every year. And it is not just US news services, other countries say the same thing. BBC news reported that some soccer fans were forbidden to travel to Germany (by Germany) to watch the games, the fans were a little upset about this. There are stories every year about English soccer fans getting destructive, today CNN reported that German police arrested over 100 English soccer fans for throwing bottles and glasses on the pedestrians passing below them. And NO< it's not "a few bad apples..." cliche....They are VERY Serious about their footy (and my own personal fav Team Arsenal (go gunners!) have a "firm" (a group of hooligans) that LOVE to cause trouble). Not unlike that group of American football fans who are so adamant about their team they get drunk and kick a$$ of anyone who disagrees that their team is the best..... Mind, of the aprox. thousands of English footy fans at the cup this year, the numbers of those who's passports were revoked to prevent their travling to the cup only numbers in the several hundreds......And this, in a country, with the population of about half the Eastern Seaboard of the US..... Not unlike doing the same to known "Gang bangers" here in the states. (and for the record..YES, i've seen the inside of an English jail for being with the wrong crowd at a footy match) __________________ You can't wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you - Look, if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor, just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!  | ||||||||

I suppose you have to ask the question "How drunk do you have to be NOT to get served in a German bar?" and "How can you blame the fans and not lay some of the blame on the publicans for some of the disorder that followed?" | ||||||||
