I don't know... maybe Vonage

Ok, I have this telco (residential) that I'm "suppose" to have CLID to block calls. Ya know.. (no CLID, no get thru). But I'm still getting these pesky "800 sevice" calls that are not even for me

Here goes the stituation....

I really don't want to the other guyz..., but talk about "BAD SERVICE" So I call the first time .. RAN.. number ..number ...RAN ....music.... click static....

Okay, bad line....

Try again...

.. RAN.. number ..number ...RAN ....music.... click static....

1 more time....

.. RAN.. number ..number ...RAN ....music.... click static....

Arrgghhh!!!

Are the 800 calls using bogus CLID? I've had a few from numbers like 805-000-0000 that get through, not exactly legal but the CLID thing is an area of the telco that is out of control at the moment.

Why even have a home phone line these days? I have one with no phone connected to it that serves simply as a BTN for the DSL service.

The VoIP providers are a hit and miss deal it seems, some folks swear by them while others swear at them; one of them (who shall remain nameless) had an issue out here where a lot of calls were going to 911 supposedly from homes but there was nobody home when the calls were made.

I have had some of them with a CLID of 999-999-9999, or 000-000-0000. Kinda makes you laugh out loud. I have 1 of the old Nortel 9516 sets, and have the CLID set for mailbox #5 where they get a recording "We do not accept calls from companies with bogus caller ID. please reset the OLI on your PRI for your call to be accepted." I have to wonder if anyone really ever hears the message.

I still have a home phone line because I remember brown outs and power failures killing every electrical device in my home. The phone still worked though.

That is the one benefit that traditional voice has over the IP world. I don't think we were EVER without dialtone when I was growing up. The power and water would go out every other week though.
