Plane delay as pilot loses mobile

Passengers were left waiting four hours for an alternative flight at Doncaster airport after the pilot of their plane lost his mobile phone in the cockpit. The captain told travellers on the Thomsonfly service to Tenerife that they could not take off until he had found the phone as it was switched on.
After sitting on the runway for an hour they were asked to disembark and wait for a replacement plane and crew.
Thomsonfly apologised but said the delay was necessary for safety reasons.
"All mobile phones are required to be switched off during the flight for safety reasons," a spokesman said.
"This is a very rare occurrence but as safety is always our priority the captain had no choice but to delay take-off until the phone was found."
The phone, which is thought to have been set to silent, was later found on the aircraft.

I was sort of wondering why they didn't try calling the phone... found mine a few times that way when I dropped it in the yard.

Same here, also when it's on silent it still vibrates.

To bad it wasn't a female pilot.
She might have things that get left on and vibrate....

Thats not too bad.... I was on a plane once and the pilot never showed up.. we had to sit on that plane for an hour and 1/2 before the replacement guy showed up......

No wonder the airlines are trying to cut the salaries of the pilots....

As well they should - Want to know what they make:

The average annual income of airline pilots is $110,940, and over 25% of those airline pilots earned over $145,000. The lowest 10% of airline pilots made less than $36,110. Senior pilots are among the top earners in the US.
This doesn't even mention the Retirement funds....Those are up there...

Pilots are paid a lot of money, a lot more than I am paid. But then, I am not in charge of a multimillion dollar plane with 200-300 lives in my hands. Sometimes you do get what you pay for.

But you are responsible for the communications for a multimillion dollar organization that relies on your systems to be functional for them to make a profit.

As for the lives, you had better make sure they can dial 9-1-1 and get help to the right place or your neck will be in a noose.

(who says we don't have as much responsibility )

Yup.... They really don't know what we do until they can't call out to anyone.

But if we keep behind our systems and keep it running smoothly we stay out of the head lights. (You do know what happens to a deer that see headlights right?)
