23rd world Pooh-sticks race held

The championships attract competitors from across the world

Hundreds of people turned out to watch the 23rd annual World Championship Pooh-sticks race at the weekend.
Teams from across the globe took part in the event, inspired by A.A. Milne's tale about Winnie the Pooh, which raises funds for charity.
The race involves dropping a stick into the river and seeing how long it takes to get to the finish line.
A team from Milton Keynes took the championship title off Japan at Days Lock, Little Wittenham, Oxfordshire.
Eight-year-old Harry Norton Shaw, from near Abingdon, won the individual competition.
The event has been held in Oxfordshire ever since a local lock-keeper noticed people were picking sticks off a hedge and playing the traditional game.
He began charging them in order to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI).
Funds raised are now split between the RNLI and the Rotary Club of Sinodun's charitable projects. The original Pooh-sticks bridge where Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin played in the books is in Ashdown Forest, a mile from Hartfield in East Sussex.

We ALL do it, no involved..it wouldn't have stood the test of time if it wasn't as popular today..
Besides...think of all the "rubber duck" races for Breast Cancer et al around the country these days...Same rules, different form.
