Not long ago the local Sheriffs department came across my 36" bolt cutters while conducting a random vehicle search when I was entering one of their jails; the issue blew up because the guard on duty wanted to be a d!ck and justify his existence... the bottom-line... bolt cutters of any size are no longer allowed to be carried on company trucks period.
The next best thing I've found for cutting chains, locks, bolts and various other metal stock is the 4.5" angle grinder fitted with a cut off blade; unfortunately all of the ones I own are 120V corded units that are too big to run off the trucks power inverter.
Enter the DeWALT DC410 18V 4.5" cordless cut off tool; honestly I'm not a huge DeWALT fan but bang versus buck it seemed to be the best deal on the market and might stand half a chance of surviving my abusive treatment. (Most DeWALT tools don't.)
Oddly I could only find this unit packed with a 1/2" drill / hammer drill on the internet, the local Lowe’s, Home Depot, OSH, Sears and other tool places only sell the cut off tool as apart of a much larger ($600) tool set which I don't need.
Overall it seems like a decent tool, runs fairly smooth and quiet. I cut a bunch of stuff I had laying around from rebar, to old bolts and that worthless little master lock that I can't find the key to. (There was a thread about it awhile ago)
Time will tell. Video of the master lock.
