Wonder if the government has thought of the wide spread programming changes for the phone systems, computers, automated houses, buildings etc.. that will have to be made? If it goes through, they will be out of synch with the rest of the world and it will cost us big bucks to change everything. *********************************** House passes daylight saving provision Senate votes next Beth Gorham Canadian Press Thursday, July 28, 2005 WASHINGTON -- The U.S. House of Representatives passed a sweeping energy bill Thursday that includes an extra month of daylight saving time. But the provision, which has Canadian provinces pondering whether they should follow suit, isn't slated to take effect until March 2007. And the idea could be scrapped before then if a planned government study suggests it won't lead to significant energy savings. ``Congress can reconsider whether they want to do this,'' said Bill Wicker, a Democratic aide on the Senate Energy Committee. ``There was never a chance to air this out. It could very easily go away. If it goes ahead, the airline industry, school districts and other people do have a chance to suss out what adjustments they might need to make.'' The issue has big implications for Canada, where some officials worry about the impact of being out of sync with the U.S. time zones for airlines, manufacturers, the financial sector and television programming. The energy bill still needs to be passed by the Senate, likely on Friday. House legislators quietly slipped expanded daylight saving time into their version of the bill in April. They originally wanted two extra months, but that was cut in half last week by House and Senate negotiators who agreed to begin daylight saving time three weeks earlier, on the second Sunday in March, and extend it by one week to the first Sunday in November.

Personally I like the way Arizona does things... they don't mess with their clocks so half the time they are out of sych with the rest of us and the other half they're in sync. Seems to be working fine for them.

If someone needs more sun, like a farmer, then they will get up sooner. Geesh!!! Who needs an extra month? How in the h3ll is that going to help energy costs on a national level???? Please. rlc
