Machine Can Check Prescription Drug Side Effects, Scientist Says

An Israeli scientist believes he has developed a way to measure sexual desire.

Dr. Yoram Vardi, of the Rambam Hospital in Haifa, Israel, said he has come up with a machine that measures brainwaves when people become aroused. He focused on the same brain waves that are measured when people take a lie detector test.

Vardi believes his machine could be a breakthrough in treating the loss of libido, a condition from which millions of people suffer. He said his machine can also check the side effects of prescription drugs on a person's sex drive.

"But it's much more difficult when you are trying to measure some feeling, something that is not a physical phenomenon, but a more central phenomenon," he said.

The doctor said his research shows that, unlike the stereotype, women have just as strong libidos as men.
