RE: Asterisk and ericsson r14 integration

I believe that Cisco's standard of power over ethernet uses the brown pair (pair 7, on a cat 5 cable. I would have to check what Nortel's BPS 460 runs power over. My initial response is yet, but I don't have anything to back it up.

You may want to field the question here too:

I think PoE is a standard now. If cisco have compatible to 802.3af standard , you have no need to worry about this.

PCX4400 speaking to Nortel SL1

I am beta testing a PCX4400 VOIP system (VLAN) to a SL1. I ran 8 analog line into the 4400 from the Nortel switch. I am having problems reaching into the PCX44 from the IP/Digital phones. I can call out to/through the SL1 from the PCX4400 but not the other way. What did I do wrong? Where (in mgr, I hope) can I correct this? Also, where is the QOS parameter set in the switch? Is it a function of the SL1 or the PCX4400? I plan to run the IP/phones across the network but for now I set up a separate VLAN to eliminate security issues with the phones.
Help

Also, where is the QOS parameter set in the switch?
There are a lot of settings/commands on this kind of switch to filter, re-mark and queue traffic using QoS, but usually the phone will mark the traffic itself using industry-standard values for DSCP and 802.1p and the switch will honour them.
You only need to configure the switch if it doesn't recognize the values used by the phone or if you want to enhance security by filtering and re-marking all traffic when it enters the network.

As long as it supports IEEE802.3af, any POE swith should work. the best is Nortel's Baystack but it's too costly.

The latest Nortel phones can be powered by 802.3af or Cisco proprietary.
