The Nortel IP Phone 1100 series is an exciting new generation of desktop IP Clients which includes support for high-resolution graphical displays, USB and Gigabit Ethernet (selected models), SIP (via a planned future firmware download) along with a new innovative ergonomic design which builds upon Nortel’s standard for ease-of-use, reliability and robustness. The series includes a single line standard-level call volume phone (IP Phone 1110), a multi-line intermediate-level call volume phone (IP Phone 1120E) and a multi-line professional-level call volume phone (IP Phone 1140E). Nortel Communication Servers Communication Server 1000 and Business Communications Manager will initially support. General availability for the 1140E and 1120E is targeted for Q4, 2005, the 1110 in Q1, 2006.

Phones look pretty cool. I like the slim line looks. Definitely a step in the right direction.

It would be nice if there was a new digital phone that was along the same design lines as well. In addition, have a phone with more than 6 line buttons. Shifting really stinks. It is murder when converting different phone systems to Nortel, and you are limited with the number of buttons on the face. May not sound like a big deal, but I find it pretty critical in the hospital environment. It is murder converting from other manufactures systems to the M3904's. Users are used to having lots of lines readily available. They do not like the shift. It could be made more bearable if the screen auto shifted on incoming calls. Ideally, a self labeling M2616 type phone would be the ticket. Sorry to drift from your subject, but phones are a sore spot for me.

Exactly the reason why we have a closet full of 3904s and everyone switched back to their old 2616s.

I think most of us are well aware of the DBA & KBA expansion modules. The room they require is too much for alot of areas and they do not lend themselves well to wall mounts.

For the average office worker sitting in a cube or office the the M3904s with add-ons work great. But take a busy hospital nurse station or ER and they take up too much space. You also tend to have alot of wall mount phones in a hospital as well. I am sure there are other types of businesses that run into the same types of situations with space constraints also.

AOMs work but around here the bean counters aren't going to buy a phone plus a AOM when they can just buy a phone.

I definitely think these are moving in the right direction.
I am a diehard Nortel person, but, I think the Cisco IP line kicks the 3900 series' butts in the "sleek and sexy" department.

(yes, I just called a phone "sexy", send help immediately!)

To my eye, this is a BIG improvement.

The IP Phone 1140E is now "generally available" in North America, Caribbean and Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, India, Thailand and selected European/Middle East countries. Initial support is with Communication Server 1000 (formerly Succession 1000) Release 3.0 or later.

The backlight feature looks pretty cool; seldom an issue but I just got a call from an EOC I support that decided to turn the lights way down for some reason and now nobody can see the screens on their 2616s.
