Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Training on the 2000 IPS Hey everyone, I kind of fell into a job at work where I'm now in charge of the phone system. I know enough where I can do the day to day stuff add/remove extensions install/remove phones voicemail etc. We have a support contract with NEC who takes care of any major issues, but I want to learn more about our own switches. We have a 2400 at our main site, and 2000 switches at our remote sites. I'm trying to get the 2400 training approved, but I couldn't find any training for the 2000 IPS. Are there any training books on the 2000 or 2400 switches? I found a ton of the switch programming manuals.. but I would like to know things like best practices / how to properly maintain the phone system. I can look up any information about any command.. I just don't know when I should be using them Specifically I would like to know more about access codes, class of service, restriction routes. Also, how did you guys learn all of this stuff? NEC seems like they want you to take their classes for training.. I'm coming from a network admin background and I've learned from many different sources.. training classes / books / CBT.. so its kind of frustrating to not find any training books on these switches.

Rep Power: 6 ![]() | It is pretty much the case that the only training you can get is from the manufacturer in the telecomms world. Which is probably one of the reasons the data world is taking over telecomms. I was self taught and then got some training direct. Years ago in the UK I became a system specialist with a company without ever getting a single training course! But life is getting it's own back, I am now trying to do my CCNA and it is fairly alien to me. I'm beginning to feel it's a case of old dog, new tricks (with an emphasis on old)! That said feel free to ask specific questions and we'll try to educate you!

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Doubtful that NEC is offering training on the 2400 or 2000 series of PBX's any longer. They are currently concentrating training resources on the new SV series of PBX's. I would assume that you could enroll in SV8500 (2400) and SV8300 (2000) and learn just as much.
