Well....are they IP or TDM phones? If they're IP they'll have an RJ45 (usual modern network connector type) on the back, if they're TDM they'll have an RJ11 (4 or 6 pin 'smaller' socket).

If they're TDM, then they ain't going through a switch - they need to be hard wired back to the PBX, usually through an LTC cable connector to the back or bottom of the PIM....

If they're IP phones, then in theory they run with just the CPU 'on' the network - utilising a CP24 daughterboard called an M606. If you ever want those IP phones to call anything other than each other then you also need an IP-PAD to convert IP calls into TDM and vice- versa.

It sounds to me like you have a TDM switch there not an IP based (the system is Hybrid dependant on software). The phones are cabled back to the punchdown blocks and a big clue on how to count where they connect is that every 25th pair is not used so skip over each when trying to work out the connections. Also as the system starts with 0 and the blocks start at 1. So the first three cards (8 ports per card slot) are on pairs 1 to 24 and the next three cards are on pairs 26 to 49. there are only 8 cards per PIM (box) so the final cards are on pairs 51 to 66. there are 4 25 pair cables to each box and as far as you are concerned the rest are redundant. Get back to us if you want to connect ISDN services or anything more complicated.

By the way, not trying to be off here but it is better to start your own thread when asking questions as people who have seen this before may not revisit thinking they have already dealt with the problem. Welcome to the forum though.
