Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I'm a total newbie so please bear with me. I can't get a straight answer and I'm tired of talking to sales agents. We have an NEAX 2000 IVS with Dterm Series E Phones. It's time for a new phone system. The boss wants to upgrade the phone system but keep the phones. Is the 2000 IPS our only upgrade choice? Do we have to convert our phones to IP phones? All help is appreciated. Thanks!

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | The IPS is the only upgrade path but Why do you need to upgrade? The IVS should serve you well for a number of years yet. If you do upgrade, you won't need to change handsets, you won't even need to replace most of the cards in the system.

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Due to EU standards NEC is no longer able to support an IVS Retrofit upgrade. Now they have come back and amended some of that statement to say that they will continue to allow but are not recomending any IVS retrofits. If you upgrade to IPS you can use most if not all of your cards in a new IPS cabinet. The Series E phones can continue to be used in an IPS. In regards to IP Phones you do not have to go that direction you can stay TDM. Mextera

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Thanks for the replies. I'm brand new here and don't know much about PBX systems. This project was underway when I arrived and it got assigned to me. As for why they want to upgrade, I know that the Boss would like direct dial numbers for each extension as well as Caller ID and a better voice mail system. (I know the VM system is completely separate.) As for the additional phone functions, do I need the IPS to get that functionality?

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | anthonyr Unless you are moving to IP solutions there is little or no reason to upgrade you can add an AD8 in skin VM to the IVS and you can put ISDN lines on to the IVS to give you indial and caller ID. There are few if any functions on the phones that are available in the IPS that you don't currently have on the IVS.
