Has anyone any documentation that could be hlpful in getting Mitel's IP phones (5220 specifically) to work with a non MITEL IP switch (ie. Asterisk)?

I know that Mitel do sell a SIP phone, but I am more interested in their other phones and seeing how much work would be involved in getting them to work natively with Asterisk.

Thanks,

Sam

Update to your 'Mitel Questions !

I do not want to say "I highly doubt it" but the control file used on these sets is proprietary (not to mention copywritten) code. These phones are manufactured to pull down a specific system operating control code during boot by its main boot rom based on the Mitel system they are connected with.

An interesting concept mind you.

I have made a Mitel 5215 work on an Asterisk voip system using instructions found here: voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+phone+Mitel+5220 however I couldn't get the * key to work (haven't got back to it to figure out why). I have also have tried to get a 5235 to work but have had no success so far.

I think to get this to work, you must have 'Dual-Mode' phones (phones that support MiNET and SIP)... Not all Mitel phones are Dual Mode, even within the same model such as the 5220 some are and some are not. You will not get MiNET only or dual mode phones in MiNET mode to work.
