5220 IP Phones Resetting

We have approx 50 x 5220 IP phones using POE (power Dsine) * cisco swicthes. The phones reset themselves whenever the computer attached to phone (via ethernet dual port) is switched on or off. This is not a major problem at the beginning or end of the day.

After our network provider made some switch changes, the phones are resetting in clusters- 1 person swicthes their computer on, up to 5 phones reset themselves. this is a nightmare as people are being cut off in mid conversation.

Our mitel support concludes a network issue but can't be more specific without a call out charge.

a previous thread mentioned to check auto negotiation is set on the switch. Any other ideas what might cause this and why is it now resetting in clusters? thx - CB

where the 5 phones on the same switch? Is it when switched on or off? Initial thoughts are something to do with either STP or port security. Do you have admin access to the switches?

yes, it could be 1 or up to 6 phones will reset on the same switch.it is either when a computer is switched on or off. i dont have admin rights to the switch. our patch panel connects to 3 switches. each switch then connects to a cisco switch cluster. the 3300 is connected to this cluster. we had problems before introducing the cluster but only 1 phone resetting at a time.

you really need access to the switches or consult with the maintainers about this. They will be able to run debug traces on the switches while you recreate the fault to see whats going on.

The problem was due to lost packets from the Cisco Switch Router Cluster 3750G. Turning the security software off on the cisco devices resolved the issue.

We run Mitel IP phones on 3750G stacks with no problem and we use various port security options ok. It's likely it's one particular setting taking the port down. If you feel up to it some more chats with the network people may work out which.
