Trace Fax Errors

Hi All. We're having problem faxing to a german fax server from the UK. Our customers fax using a lo-call number which connects to a MITEL virtual number in our uk office which is then forwarded via a speed dial to the german fax server. from our tests, if we fax the german fax number direct the problem is still intermittent. the sending fax machine sends an error transmission report. the receiving fax server intermittenly recieves the whole fax, sometimes half a fax and other times nothing at all. what maintenance commands in MITEL will help diagnose\trace an error in connection? I'm adamant our side of things work as faxing to and from any other fax machine works? the fax server is avaya. thx

This is not a Mitel issue and there is no function in the system to diagnose a problem with it, it is a fax machine issue, you verified it yourself using a copper line. Try setting the fax machine for a lower speed, sometimes called "Overseas Mode", or disabling transmission faster than 9600 bps, this can usually be done for a single fax transmission.

I would also agree with you that this is probably an issue with the far end, if you can fax ANY other fax machine.

What kind of trunks are the calls going to the German fax machine using? Digital, analog or IP. If IP, please be sure there is NO compression, however in general, Mitel with tell you that Fax over IP is not supported - except if using T.38.

Thanks for the replies. the trunk is analog. we performed a test sending from 2 differnet fax machines (at the same time) in our office to a differnet german fax machine and still have the problem. to change the speed would mean hundreds of customers changing their fax machine speeds which is too impractical. i need to prove the problem is not mitel related so the next test is to try sending a fax from a non mitel system direct to the german fax. any other thoughts\comments appreciated.

i tested from a non mitel system and the problem remains so it is likely a problem with the carrier and specifically, that of quality. reducing speed using overseas mode is impratical for all our cusomters so we need to rethink the solution. thx again for all your input.
