Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Mitel 3300 MXE question - T1/Analog Hi, I am unfamiliar with the Mitel range of systems and had to look at something regarding analog faxing for a client who has a Mitel IP system. The system is badged as a 3300 MXE and is connected to a ISDN PRI (T1) via RJ45. The system also appears to have an analog card in the back with some modems/analog phones/faxes attached. I was wondering if I am correct in assuming that the Mitel is handling the digital to analog conversion for these analog devices to work? I know it's a stupid question but I've not come across a Mitel system before. Thanks Paul

The Mitel 3300 (and most other phone systems) can and will handle this gracefully, this is absolutely true and works perfectly with a traditional TDM ISDN PRI service. The problem is a lot of carriers (around here anyway) are now delivering PRI service from a IP type service, such as SIP, via a Cisco or Adtran router. Dial-up data services like modems, credit card authorizing units, and faxes will often fail to work, fail intermittently, or are just extremely slow on this type of service and it has nothing to do with the Mitel or whatever phone system they are connected to. These are usually easy to spot, from one to four T-1 circuits will terminate into a Cisco or Adtran router, and from that there is usually an Ethernet connection for Internet and a T-1/PRI connection for the phone system. Sometimes these will have analog lines off them as well. We also see at least one wireless Internet provider putting up antennas and feeding these units with direct IP and converting a SIP service from an Asterisk based system to PRI for customers. For voice this type of service usually works out OK, but for dial-up data services it can be trouble. __________________ Telephony users cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I've had pretty good success if the carrier makes sure that the number associated with the Fax/Modem/credit card machine is set to not compress the call. (g711) Most of the carriers I've had to work with can make this happen with no problems. But there are times when for some reason, the carrier can't determine when I'm sending from a particular number and it still goes out g729 and fails. But if you really want to hear about some fun, try T.38 with modems, alarm systems, credit card machines... Dry Aquaman
