3300 MXe time sync with external time source

Hi all

Does anybody know of a way to sync the clock on the 3300 MXe vers 7 with an external time source such as one of our Windows Domain Controllers or an internet time source.

Thanks

Sam

I didn't think this was possible.

The 3300 uses a Stratum 3 clock module for internal time source which Mitel deems accurate enough.

Badger

Thanks for that Badger, I thought that would be the case but thought it I'd ask just in case. The clock seems to shift a couple of minutes each month, which is no big problem. Looks like I'll keep changing it once a month or everytime the MD calls me to say the clock is out!!

I'm pretty sure the clock module is a small card that can be swapped out (not that i've ever swapped one).

May be worth thinking about anyway.

clock loss on the 3300

If you have an ISDN link connected to your 3300 for external trunking, then make sure you have recorded at least the primary link plid into the 'network synchronization' form.

Also, not to add to cost complexity for your solution, Mitel offers ''enterprise manager w/ opsman" packages whereby one of the many hundreds of componenets available is clock synchronization ... this would allow the windows pc to time sync with any local or remote timeserver, and then on a schedule (daily, weekly, monthly, etc) propogate time across the Mitel PBX network.

We have the 3300 connected to two ISDN 30. So your saying I could sync the time from the service provider of the ISDN?

That is also a possible solution as we will be purchasing enterprise manager in the future.

Thanks teltek.

Forgive my misleading information

No to this thought. The internal clock is manually set; period. However, the network synchronization setting remains very important. The sync source ensures reliable timing to the SP for voice comms ... there is no time/date information in an ISDN stream. The only relation between the two is several consecutive restarts on the link due to loss of sync/phase could cause delay to the system time count; ultimately reducing the internal display clock on the system. You must always set the SP as the network synchronization source in every digital trunking environment. Always define the 'more reliable' clock as sync master.

This is the 'only' supported method available for automated time synchronization on the 3300 currently; ver.7 and down.
Please understand this function is a component of the OPSmanager extension of the Enterprise Manager package. OPSmanager must be purchased with (or in addition to) Enterprise Manager. These two packages are mated; should one need to upgrade, the other must follow by revision.
