Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Hi, Total newbie here and have to admit not really a PBX person. Hope someone can help me in what may be a simple question about some alarms that are being seen on some SX2000's. Bit of background to the problem...... I have just installed a couple of Westell DPNSS/IP gateways into a Mitel SX2000 network so as to move the voice off the Newbridge Frame Relay backbone to the new MPLS/IP data infarstructure. All is working with no noticable problems, (none that we are aware of in any case)....apart from about 600 'max re-trans' alarms every hour? What I was wondering is if anyone has come accross these alarms before and what could be causing them? I guess that 'max retrans' is short for maximum retransmissions but what could be being retransmitted and why isnt the user seeing any problems with the voice services? Hope that makes some sort of sense? Thanks for any help in advance Tommo

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | 'Max retrans' apear when recalling the 'DTSTATS' of an CEPT/E1 ciruit. Which is normally associated in the UK with ISDN 30. I am not extreemly well versed in MITEL PRI but i am sure this is message retransmittion in the control channels os the PRI link. Genrally speaking it doesnt cause service problems with the system (as far as my experience goes anyway) however you may want to look at the sysc'ing of the two system. Hope this helps

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Both, Thanks very much for your help. What are the DTSTATS on a Pri? Is there any way that I can turn these off? Should they even be on a DPNSS link, (you mention that its normally associated with ISDN 30 links Bob?)? Looking at the alarms again it says there doesnt seem to be a problem with the clocking, (zero frame loss, slips or bit errors)? I was wondering if the reason they have just started, (since installing the VoIP gateway), is because whereas the Newbridge FR network passed everything transprantly, the Westell VoIP gateways actually interogate the DPNSS channel and make routing decisions based on what they see. i.e. they are acting as A and B ends to the DPNSS cards respectively? Because the gateways terminate the DPNSS at both ends I am wondering if there is some 'non-standard' DPNSS traffic being transmitted by the SX2000's? I have a picture of the actual alarm screen if that would be of any use that I have tried to attach if that is of any use? BTW the max retrans is about 600 per hour, with an average retrans of 2-4 per hour, (or thats the way it reads to me in any case?) Thanks again for your assistance and patience, (I'm not a PBX chap by nature....I usually deal with the networking side).

Location: Kitchener, Ontario Rep Power: 5 ![]() | THIS LENDS TO CLOCKING ... In all networks, especially digital trunking ones, the master clocking link is the key to most issues of this nature. What you should be doing is topographically reviewing where your primary clock source is honed onto !!! on the sx2000's you will have a variety of clocking structures ... if the sx2000's have local telco digital trunks connected then they SHOULD be clocked (synchronized) to these sources first ... and your westell's should be told to clock at each location to the sx2000 link. If these (or any one sx2000) does not have local digital trunking to source from, then they should be sourcing from your westell which in turn would be set to clock from the network OR freerun if this is the last viable option. In short ... match your clocking at each location to its most reliable source and then ensure all other equipment touching it follows in suit.
