Location: Denver Area Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Audix Message Retention Hello All! Rookie Audix Question... I am the IT Director for a hotel that is using Audix for messaging (without a support contract). Our Director of HR wants us to increase her "saved" messages retention time. When I do a ‘change subscriber’ for her extension, is see that she is using COS class00. When I do a ‘change cos class00’, I see retention times of 10 days for new, old and unopened. Which one refers to ‘saved’ messages? Old? I have people telling me that they have saved messages for months. What gives? Am I looking at the correct screen? Also, as a best practice, isn’t it best to keep her in line with the COS rather than adjusting her local page? What do you suggest is the best thing that I can do to accomodate her request without clogging up the message storage or fouling up something else? Keep in mind that this is the HR Director and she is on the unofficial IT "Don't Disappoint" list!

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | As I understand it (and I'm a newbie as well), saved messages (messages that have been listened to and kept) are considered Old Messages by the system. Also, it is possible to keep a message around for months by periodically listening to the message prior to expiration and saving it again, this resets the timer back to zero days. Finally, you can modify an unused COS and increase the retention time all around to 20 days (or whatever you like, I believe the range is 0 to 999). Then assign the new COS to your "special users". Don't be surprised if, after a year, you're at 90% minutes used with an almost full hard drive. I'm sure Marty will stop by to enlighten us all.

I keep everyone at 10 days. If someone business travels, I'll extend the new and old to the needed number of days. I will then change it back to 10 days after they return and have had time to listen to the message. The COS will then change to "custom." Your Audix probably only has so much space so to keep it fair, I keep everyone at the same level. I do have a few exceptions to the rules depending on VP status or need. The tip is to get people to delete old/unneeded messages to keep space freed up in the system

Location: San Diego, CA Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Rhonda and jymkata both have good advice here. Follow Rhonda's suggestion for most folks because the hard drive space is a limited resource and you do not want to use it up storing messages for a long time that do not need that. For those people that want to keep messages longer, give them a COS that retains old messages (these are the ones that have been listened to and saved) for a longer interval. Keep retention times for new and unopened at the default value. I recommend a special COS because that way you have a standard rather than a custom COS for each user. If you need to change something all you need to do is change the COS rather than trying to remember each user that you modified. __________________ Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
