newbie trying to upgrade, please help

Hello all, i recently took a job where i would be supporting a merlin phone system, i am trying to determine which one i have and how i can add more ext. it says merlin 511a on the side of it. We are running 3 backplanes that are completely full of cards. some 008's and a few 016's. i cannot add another backplande because there is no room on the wall, the mounted the 3rd one all the way to the corner. I assumed the best way to achieve more ext. is to swap the 008 cards for 016's can anyone tell me what obstacles i am going to run into doing this, i know i will have to renumber the extensions, i assume i can use the spm software to do this, will i have to renumber all the extensions or just the ones in the card i am going to swap???

what is your processor...CKE3, 4 or 5....the easilest way to do such a big
project is to get another processor..same vintage and start from scratch..
less bugs and don't have to worry about messing up the existing processor
translations....Try Ebay for cheap processors....it will be worth your time and
piece of mind doing your changes to a backup proc.
PM me for anymore Q's.

I agree with hitech. The Merlin Legend & Magix can be a handful to learn on the fly. I too would suggest hiring an Avaya Business Partner to check the system over, configure it to meet your requirements and show you the ropes.
