Location: Howell, MI Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Cool Test Hey Merlin Heavy Hitters, I have mucho big problem. I must network together, with centralized VM, 2 Merlin 7.0's, with one Merlin having a PRI to the outside world. I have very good skills/ comfort level with the Merlin, EXCEPT for ARS. These 2 systems are sitting on my test bench, with accompanying CSUs, ready to rock. The good news: Just by setting up the "PRI" correctly and putting the opposing extension ranges in the UDP under SYS RENUM, I can ICOM call between the systems. The bad news: I cannot transfer an outside call between the systems, and the time has come for me to do the ARS programming associated with the one system having the only connection for outgoing ( a PRI) and the fact that DIDs are incoming. I have read (over and over) the Merlin Manuals on "routing" but as you might agree, nowhere is the relationship, the mojo, between ARS, UDP, tables, stats, blah, blah, blah explained. An example: I have more experience on the N* and I woud give a brief explanation on n* routing thusly; Lines (Digital or not) go into pools with there own kind. Destination codes are digits or digit patterns that the user dials, when the destination code is matched, it points to a Route (digits can be stripped here). Routes point to pools (digits can be added here) and there goes the phone call. Merlin routing seems way waY WAY more complicated. At any rate: Could someone give me a similar primer on Merlin routing, I can look up individual terms, I just have no idea how it all fits together. Since you stayed this long: one more quickie, From the Merlin Networking Manual, page 2-17. This VMI Conversion number is mentioned alot, but what is never explaned is, is this a number that I just pick out of the sky arbitrarily ? Or is it somehow related to the extension range or the VM Calling group or uh..... what ? Thanks in advance for your time ! No foolin' ! | ||||||||

Location: California's Central Coast Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Faxing over PRI with BCM I'll try to help with what little I've "shoulder surfed" on several networked installations. Set up the T1 between switches as a PRI The CO Lines MUST be set as Loop Start Reliable Disconnect Enabled in order for the calls tr be transferred across the network The Voice Mail Conversion Number is something that you just make up at the site without the voice mail. It doesn't matter what it is, as long as it does not conflict with any of the other parts of the dial plan. This Voice Mail Conversion Number is the ONLY member of the Voice Mail Calling Group. In the Non-Local UDP tables, you put this Voice Mail Conversion Number in as a Non-Local Extension, tell it to absorb all the digits, and then output the Voice Mail Calling Group number at the switch with the Voice Mail. For the outgoing calls from the remote switch, be sure to have the ARS tables add a 9 to the number, so it will dial out from the other switch. Tell it to use the pool with the tie trunks. | ||||||||

Location: Howell, MI Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Paging Access O.K., Here's a much more specific question regarding ARS. I have switch A and switch B, 10 miles apart, linked by PRI protocol over T- 1. Switch A will also have a PRI to the CO which both switches will use for outgoing. When I go to ARS Input, no matter if I choose 6-digit,Area Code, Exchange, or 1+7, they all want Area Codes or Exchanges. My routing does not need to be this complex. ALL outgoing calls are ALWAYS going to take the same route unless the T goes down. Is there someway I can just put in 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 or some wildcard that would allow me to not input every area code in the U.S. and beyond ? Or do I have an inncorrect understanding of where you would input these patterns.? Thanks. | ||||||||

Under Tables, ARS, Sub A Pools, it asks for a table and a route. Well, Table 17 and 18 are the ever sought after default routes. The catchalls if you dial 9. So, on switch B you would, under tables,ars,sub a pools, 17,1 and 18,1 put the tie trunk pool 891 ( in my case 691). Also under sub a digits, add a 9 as an ars "flag for switch a" Translation - If someone dials a 9 on switch b, take tie trunks between switches and hand off a 9 in order to use switch a's ars tables. On switch a don't add or subtract the 9, just go under sub a pools 17, 1 and 18, 1 and put in the one outgoing pool (e.g. 890). Pretty simple ONCE YOU FIgurE iT oUt heheheeehheeeeeehaaahahaahahahahahhhhahahahahah IVe gOnE MAD oooooooaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhheehehhcough coughhahahahhhahhahahhahhahahahaha! | ||||||||
