I only have a fleeting knowledge of our Nortel Meridian system, and i have been told i have to add a new dialing prefix to our system - ie dial 72 on the phone to automatically dial 889 as an outside line, please can anyone give me step by step instructions on this or even just point me in the right direction of what im looking for. Please help people as im going grey trying to sort this.

Welcome the the site(s).

Hmmm. I'd guess you can do this in the ESN loads, hopefully a 'Nars/Bars' guru will assist. Take a loock at LD 86's DMI.

In the meantime - you can check out LD 18's pre-translation. Where each time an employee dials 72, 72 is removed and 889 or 9889 is put in its place.
Then you give each set access to the XLST...

RE:

To make sure I understand. You currently dial 889 to access an outside line? Is this for both local and long distance? and are you wanting to change the access for long distance to 72 or have both as an option for getting an outside line?

DMI is done after a routes been selected, to manipulate what is sent out across your routes.

Can you be more specific? Are you trying to add an NNX (first three digits of a seven digit phone number) or are you trying to manipulate your AC where 889 currently gets you an outside line?
