We have been having issues with dialing phone numbers that are connected to modems in Canada. Here’s the deal:

We have reps dialing from their desks with your basic modem. They are dialing the numbers through ProComm Plus. The reps are saying they can connect to the far end, a modem in Canada, and after two or three minutes they cannot stay connected.
This started about 10-15 days ago.

I’m wondering if there is something in the OPT81C Succession that may be causing the timeout of the line. I do not have a print out of the TN of one of the 500 ports.

I am going to have a rep dial out from my desk in the morning and I was going to do a trace on my modem TN to see where it is going out in the switch. If after two or three minutes we lose the connection, will the trace tell me what end caused the hang-up?
We are currently using one trunk group. I may connect a plain old telephone line up to a modem to see if the problem follows when we call without the switch.

Or could it be something on the far end, Canada? Dose anyone know of any changes that may have taken place in Canada?

It could be a problem with your LD provider. Try completing a call using a different carrier to see if it resolves your issues.

Also check to see if the calls are going out of your side over a T-1. If there are any errors in the LD 60 LCNT then it could be a source of disconnections. Modem's aren't as forgiving as your average voice user.

Otherwise, good luck. My whole job here is based on mass automated modem usage. We're finding problems DAILY with connections. We have two T's here, one Verizon, one MCI. When we can't get a site to connect with either of those, we use the Sprint access code (1010333 I think?) That takes care of 99% of them. The rest are usually just noise on the far end.

Arch and all,

We are currently dialing off of 2 t-1's that connect to a carrier and don't go through the 81C. I have thought all along that the problem is in the carrier but they are reporting there has not been any changes. We may have isolated the issue in another piece of equipment that may or may not be whats causing the errors.
