Location: San Antonio, TX Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I got one for ya. What is the maximum suggested cable lenght coming from an option 81c analog card out to the set? We have a relatively long run across property, and I am trying to avoif the time and effort of running a cat 6 cable out to the location only to find that it exceeds the lenght and winds up being very low quality, or not working correctly at all. Thanks for the help.

Of course it depends on the guage of wire. You can find some distance recomendations in NTP: 553-3001-215 "Telephone and attendant console installation". If you want to get techie - you can use Ohms Law, but what I usually do is take the Box/Spool of cable - install a jack on one end and connect the other to a TN in the IDF that I'm planning on running the cable from. I've been in IDFs (that are the furthurest from the switch) and installed a jack on a Box of 1000' Cat 5 and the phone came up with no problem.... Chas2002 BTW - Welcome to the board..

Location: Avaya (was NORTEL) - Ottawa Rep Power: 8 ![]() | There is definitely specs for cable for digital sets but a quick scan didn't show me anything for analog. There have been cases of Meridian 1 systems being used for small Central Offices (some of you may remember MMCS) where you could be at a considerable distance. Typically, as long as you can still get enough ringing voltage to the analog set (and the phone itself is sensitive enough to pick it up) then the phone will ring.
