As some of you are aware, I am located in Louisville, KY. The home of the Kentucky Derby. Saturday, May 1, was Derby Day and per our norm it rained like you would not believe. During this lightning enriched spring shower my RPE sent the following errors:

XMI001 52 0 7 XMLC
XMI002 52 0 15 XMLC
XMI008 52
XMI001 52 0 15

During the MIDs the entire card of 52 0 7 showed that it had been disabled. When I came in on Monday morning, this morning, I saw the errors and began some basic testing.

LD 32, ENLC, DISC and it gave me NPR326s. I DISC and went out to this building to see what I could see. I checked all connections, pins, unseated and reseated the card. The card flashed 3 times and I called to have it ENLC. The card was unresponsive and it again returned an NPR326 error code. DISC replaced the line card with another from stock. It self tested and this time when it was ENLC the card flashed and began to bring the ports up. Here is the kicker......

When I pulled the card to replace it, the tech at the terminal saw a code that showed 52 0 15. The card that I was pulling was 52 0 7. There was no card even installed in 15. So, why would the PBX read one slot as another? What would cause slot 7 to be seen as 15 and then be seen as 7. It seems to me that I have dealt with this very problem in the past yet, I just can't pull the answer out of it's hiding place. Thoughts, ideas, directions to look, anything would be helpful.

I feel that I might just have a signifigant signalling issue and I don't know where to go.

Global Connect - Who's going?

Sounds like you might need to try taking the loop down and re-enabling so the controller reloads????

I asked, yesterday evening, to take that loop down and was told that the work volume is too high. I have to schedule it around the production units that are located out there.

I am also having the grounding on the RPE evaluated. Something may have changed and we may not be as grounded as we once were. I hope that doesn't prove to be the issue but, we are just getting too many XMI errors for my comfort. They could be due to storms and standing water but, I don't get that feel. Intuition is a good part of this job.

R,

Might be a stretch but have you verified the switch tail wiring?

Anyone know if there is a Nortel sponsered forum?

Too bad all those customers are so busy, they never want to take time for maintenance.

If it was working before the storm, just reloading the controller should do the trick.

Is it really an RPE or a carrier or fiber remote?

Old habits die hard. It is a Fiber Remote.

Jack: I verified the tails when I went out to the site. I thought it was a longshot too but, it wasn't going to hurt to just be sure. Stranger things have happend.

what was the code that was generated when you replaced the card ? Was it an ERR020 from slot 15 ? Or a Request for download? You should have gotten a Xmi001 L S 7 when you unseated the card and an xmi002 L S 7 (card polling re-established when you seated the card. Err020's from Carrier / Remote slot 15's is common.

I got XMI001 L S 15 when I unseated the card 52 0 7 and an XMI002 L S 15 when I reseated the original card. Then I unseated it again and got the XMI001 52 0 15 reseated the new card and it came up XMI002 52 0 7. I had the other tech DISC and ENLC and we did it again and all read as it should (card 7). There is nothing in slot 15 for an XMI to be generating off of.

See my confusion?

And it continues.....

This morning we found another card on 52 that XMI001 as itself but the XMI002 was for card 20. We all know that card 20 is not possible. Then a card on the other shelf of this fiber remote XMI001 and XMI002 on one card. These phones are all dead ducks as I type.

Replace the cards? YES
Reload the XPEC? Yes

After I do those things, what should be done? I have a request in for our facilities folks to verify the grounding and the electrical to the room. Should I be looking in any other directions. I want to be sure to look in all directions before steping in to the street and getting smacked by a bus.
