J - I use MS Paint and a Free program called PMView Pro to convert to gif.

I use a B&K Model 2407 (About $60 at most electrical supply houses). But for what Chas is talking about there are a couple at Radio Shack for around $15 to $25 that'll do the trick.

Doing this is OK for a few units, IMHO. Phone-Guy'll really need to whittle down his list of suspects to make the job manageable unless he's planning on a long term project.
