External call forwarding and billing

Option 51c release 24.25 using 2616 phones.

Here is the scenario:
One of my attorneys is on a phone call, and they want to conference in a 3rd party (or 4th or 5th), so he calls the new party and as soon as he gets the line to ring, he hits the button to conference in the call with the other parties. If the person he called voicemail picks up, is there any way for my attorney to drop the call without dropping the rest of the people on the conference call so the voicemail system doesn’t record the conversation?

My initial reaction is there is no way for this to work, since I couldn’t think of any buttons or key combinations to selectively drop a specific caller from a conference line. Am I correct in thinking this? Or is there a way to do what is being asked?

I'll have to try that conference feature gei.

You could always * out of the voicemail.

Then there's always the procedural approach... Tell the conferencer to engage the called party in conversation, "Hi, Joe. I'm bringing you into our conference call if that's okay with you," before touching Conference again. This way, if the called party declines, or the caller gets a voicemail greeting, the caller can leave a message, if desired, and then touch the extension key, eliminating that party as a conferee.

If the party's vm greeting has already been brought into the conference, and if the voicemail system is MerMail, leave a message, "We're here; where are you?" touch #, and then 83 to end the session; the call will drop off of the conference shortly.

If that party uses another vm system, you'll have to guess, record the conference call up to the limit of that voicemailbox, or you'll have to restart the conference. Better to change the procedure in the first place, IMHO.

Remote Call Forward (DISA)???

Mlgriggs, you’ve never worked with attorneys have you?

I agree with you 100% that they should just wait until the person answers the line but a lot of times they will call a outside attorney for a conference and be put on hold for a few minutes while the secretary/receptionist tries to get the other attorney on the phone. My attorneys don’t want to keep their client on “hold” while the other parties join the conference and would rather be able to talk with them while they wait.

They also want to be able to tell when someone is actually dropped from the conf call, incase someone tries to linger on after they said they were hanging up.

It appears that only Meridian Modular (Aries) sets can be used with this feature. Is that true or can the Taurus sets also be used?
