Hey folks,

I noticed on one of my PBX's (81C 25.40b) when I list unused TN's I get many that have a unit between 16-23. I was under the impression that Voice units were 1-15. I spoke with a co-worker and he suggests not using TN's ending in 16-23 because they are not reliable. Does anyone have phones programmed on Voice Units 16-23 if so, have you experienced any problems? Is it safe to use it?

Often times you would use 16-32 for "data" equipment. My last use of those TNS was for the 3000 series "Analog adaptor" mods (can't recall the actual name of those little boxes)
They were used to allow an anolg connection "piggy backed" on the Digital phone set line.
Programmed as a voice unit, true, but matching the phones TN with the Data TN.
IE: Phone TN is 4 0 0 0 the Adapter TN would be built on 16 0 0 0 (the corolating TN)

Hey Pirate,

They are ATA's (Analog Terminal Adapters). However, when I LUVU the TN's I am refering to are VCE not DTA, so I don't think it is the same thing. Also, on other PBX's the range of 16-23 do not show up.

I programmed and connected one of these TN's (36 0 0 23) and got a dial tone, but no display on the M3904. Kind of weird.

(Ah yes. ATAs...good units, lousy Airline )

Hmmm....are these standard DL cards? That could be part of the puzzle.

They are digital line cards, as for being standard??? Is there a way I can find out if they are standard. From what my co-worker tells me it was a Nortel initiative to have 23 phones/card instead of 16, but there were so many problems that Nortel said it was not supported. I don't know where he is getting this info.

There is a 24 port card available with rel. 25, if you look at the CTYP prompt when you print out the TNB it will probable say XDLC which is the standard 16 port DLC, EDLC is for the new 24 port DLC however there is no 32 (voice) port available yet

You can try this. I'm not sure it will work but. Out all phones on the card. Then build a new phone on the card when you get to the ctyp prompt put in xdlc. For some reason the system is seeing the card as an edlc and we want to tellit it is a xdlc. Never tried this but it may work. Gooden lucken.

Nortellian,

When I print out TN's on that card they all show up as EDLC. If I change the CTYP to To XDLC will I be able to use the TN's ending in 16-23 or does it just not show TN's 16-23 when I LUVU?

Has anyone tried outing all the phones then creating the first one on unit 23. Does it rectify the problem?

Also, do your phones on units 16-23 work properly? Are they 2000 or 3900's series phones.

I haven't tried doing this but i need to. I have the same problem. Some cards are being seen as edlc and these extra ports 16-23 show up when i do a luvu. I tried building a phone on one of these higher ports and it didn't work. Don't rebuild on port 23 rebuild on port 0 and try to make the type xdlc. This is so you get rid of those extra ports 16-23 from showing up when you luvu.

EDLC is the 24 port digital line card, here is the last idea I have....should have been the first go and look at the cards part number...NT8D02 is a 16 port and NTRD24 is the 24 or enhanced digital line card
