We were receiving and sending faxes fine, then a client called and said the line is just ringing. I went down and there was no tone from the fax. I checked the connections and they were good. I brought down my analog test phone and hooked it up, no tone. I checked the port in the wall (which is behind a desk and no way for anyone to kick it accidentally) and found out that SBC used the existing line and spliced off 2 wires and put in a analog box off that wire set that said “modem” and then another one that said “phone”, got no tone from the modem box however the phone (2616) works fine. I hooked up the tone generator and was getting tone to my switch room, checked LD 32 and the port shows up as idle.
My next course of action is going to re-punch the wires and see if that helps the problem. But I was hoping that before I call out SBC and drop $200 if anyone had any other ideas I should try beforehand. I setup a forward on the downed line to another fax as a temp fix so I have some time to work with it.

Thanks

ACD supervisor add-on module question...

I'd start at the TN dial tone yes or no?

If no bad port move to another TN and repeat test.

If yes throw new jumper and go to next x-connect point and test there continue all the way to jack.

From description its either a bda tn or a bad jumper.

RE:

If I understand the problem correctly, you have a splitter on a digital TN, Half the splitter connects to a 2616 that works, and the other half connected to a anaolg box to which the fax is plugged. If you remove the splitter do you get dial tone. If you unplug the 2616 do you get dial tone from the analog box? Is it possible the analog box is defective or broken?

Thanks Jack and Chas, and chas your picture is dead on. I’ll do what you guys suggested and let you know how it turns out.

Pan – haven’t tried to remove the splitter yet but I will give that a whirl also. It is possible that the analog box might be bad… I’ll see if I have a spare one I can switch it out with.

Thanks again for the help I’ll reply back after I try out your suggestions.

Maybe too simple, but also check that the TN assigned the Analog is BUILT....No phone built, no dial tone found.

Not too simple at all. Last week I had a fax line quit working just after the PBX did a sysload (still haven't been able to determine exactly what brought that on, I lost the history (PHST/AHST) files).

I followed the usual procedure and found no tone at the TN. Checked the programming and found that TN=UNEQ. I rebuilt the TN and the line worked fine.

That's when I found out that someone (I have no idea how long ago) had taken LD 43 out of the midnights. I put it back, of course.

Phantom ext won't ring!

I had a similar trouble where I had a green light on my toner and iot was programmed right, but it just wouldn't come up. I changed TN's and it came up fine.

Regardless of LD 43 being in your DROL's, you should always do a EDD after making AMC work, unless you like re-typeing data of course.

You're correct in this. I had let myself slide into the habit of only doing a manual data dump if I had made several data changes and prior to any repairs.
