I am currently adding a third node to an existing Meridian Mail. The first two nodes never had hard drives installed for shadowing so I ordered them. I haven't been able to locate the proper procedure in the Meridian Mail 13 manuals to perform this type of upgrade. Also no mention is made of the Seagate Model ST318418N 4.5 GB hard drives. I'm assuming the SCSI ID 2 address should be like the older models (010). Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

PARKING

i cant guarentee this but i think u just power the mail down put the new drives set to scsi 2 and insert in the approprite slot and power it back on. the reason i say this is I accedentaly put in a drive set for scsi 2 one time and the sysem thought it was shadowed disk even though there was no other disk in the node. i was just replacing a bad drive i pulled out the old one put in the new one (which was incorrectly set to scsi 2) and restored to it. the system came up fine and workded but when u looked at the drives the primary was missing and only the shodowed drive was there so i powered it down reset the scsi and all was well

Whats the MAX of the ACS

Powering down the module before inserting the drives sounds like it would make sense. I did find in the MMail 12 Administation Manual, Chapter 28, Section E, all the information pertaining to Disk Maintenance. It talks about replacing a bad disk then reenabling disk shadowing. That should resynch both primary and secondary drives.

Digit insertion

Check your system for this menu option under system status and maint

System status and maintenance
Disk maintenance
On systems with Disk Shadowing installed, this selection
allows you to disable or reenable Disk Shadowing. On both
shadowed and unshadowed systems, this selection allows you to
view the state of disks and run disk diagnostics.

If it is not there, then get a software engineer, because you may need an upgrade.

SCSI id 0 is the main drive, 2 is the shadow drive and 3 if for disk copying in tools ( good for upgrades)

Some drives are not covered in the manuals, choose one lower than the one you have. Never go higher. ( based upon sheer storage size, see the drives website for an interepretation)
