Sorry to get back on topic here guys, but I have another quetion about PDT. Would my Nortel distributer (who also supports the syustems) use PDT to clear those pesky BUG error messages? I did encounter "PDT in Progress..." it with OTM on more than one occasion. How does OTM use PDT and is it safe to type exit while it is in progress.

Thanks,

Panchanka

SCH - Yeah I know...No big deal....

It couldv'e caused an issue if someone were "adventurous" and hopped in without reading...'someone' meaning - one who does things by "Trial and Error" - PDT isn't where you want to be..

RE:

To all of you who are thinking about playing with PDT please take note of what Chas2002 has replied.

I have seen what PDT can do when messed about with, took 48 hours to bring an 81 back up to full speed.

No, wasn't me that took it out, I was one of 3 working around the clock to bring it back up.

RE:

SCH - Excellent Cautionary Tale.

Did your 'Customer" ever find out what exactly happened? - This is a big No.No. in communications and I'm sure some heads rolled...

I consider myself a top notch tech and know how to PDT, but never would do so..would not even consider it...

I don't know what I'm doing once I'm in there + there are no safeguards in place...

Techs like Fletch and Jack know what they're doing and have made a name for themselves in fixing software issues and at the same time not f$%king up anything else.......

Me - I'm just a Tech who takes in everything and in the near futute will be trying to land a job at a NOC center in NC....I've only been working on the Meridain Family for 5 years, but I have great confindence in my abilities.. but understand my limitations.....

RE:

Checked with a few colleagues today, the idiot that did it has never been employed in the comms field since. He was kicked out of the bank before we arrived on site, we had to deal with a panic striken comms manager nearly in tears, not a pleasent site.

Some how he had taken out the entire TN database.

PBX Master I’m not. OTM Guru I am. Sad I know … STOP LAUGHING AT ME!!!

OTM uses PDT for both DBA, and Corporate Directory. Both are stored on the Hard Drive and requires PDT access to obtain. That’s why in the later releases of OTM you’ll see the PDT Password entry in the Systems Properties. As most of you know, back around 2000 the PDT password was published on the Web. So Nortel had to give you or the Distributor the option of changing it from its default value.

As a former member of ETAS I’ll back up the DON’T PLAY WITH PDT stance. The only time I ever used PDT was to install MPLR12780 (Christ I still remember the number of that damn patch!!!), which solved some PTY/PDT MAT/OTM Login issues. As soon as I was done I was out of there.

Question: What is ETAS?

Where does one access PDT? I don't want ot go in, I want to avoid it.
