I say if you hear your modem "going off" turn it off then back on. If it does it again turn it off again. If the vendor needs access they will have to call you. Also, remind them that you are the customer and you would like to be informed before they dial into your, you being the paying customer, switch.

M1 opt 11c stuck in boot cycle at diskos init

If you are curious what they are doing in there you can use the MON command.
