For reason's too long to go into fully, it's been put to me to figure out a way to share a 3904 between two persons.
Not an issue.
Key 0 and 1 person A
Key 3 and 4 person B.
Simple...
UNTIL we come to VM.

Currently Person A has the MWL (message waiting lamp) working for him/her....Person B, well, XMWK set up on key 5 with the flashing icon alerts them.

The issue:
IS there anyway (and so far I've not found one) to either:
1) make the MWL light for BOTH persons when they have VM (shy of sharing a VM box, wich is not an option)
2) make an Icon al la the XMWK key for both users (again, can't happen that I've found as XMWK does not function on the Primary DN)

Am I right in thinking that this can't happen? Or is there someway to do this? (and the Icon way, even if it still light's the MWL as it's been suggested by myself and others "electricians tape takes care of that")

HELP!
cheers
PG

Are the mailboxe's message waiting dn, set to be the prime dn on that set?

By the way, virtual office allows you to do this, but they cannot use the phone at the same time. They have to log in and tell the system who they are and their features and key maps will show up at that set. I am not sure what package it is and I bet that you dont have it now, but I figured I would mention it.

Thanks for the input Mrmike...but VO (virtual office) is what they're trying to avoid (for whatever reason). That was my first suggestion when this project was presented to me.

As to the other:
Only the key 0 appearance will be recognized by the VM....the primary ke for the second person appears on key 3, so VM doesn't recognize that...again...this is the problem.

The way I have it set up currently works, technically, Partner A (key 0) sees the lamp for mesages, partner B (Key 3) sees an Icon flashing next to the XMWK key for his....just not ideal, they'd like them to see the same thing.

Keep in mind, we're aware that this may NOT even be possible, but looking to see if we can 'Break it' to work.
Cheers

My thoughts,

If you set both mailboxes MWDN to be key 0 on that set, then either mailbox will light the red light, but not light both MWK keys on that set.

PG -

I run into this issue all the time (people working different shifts sharing the same desk, pc, and phone) and they both want MWA.. [I was looking for that emoticon that show the happy face banging his head against the wall..- That's a good one.]

Short answer, I haven't found a way to do it with MerMail or Centigram (That's the VM system I have)

So I usually place both dn's on a 2616 with Key 0 marp'd for the first user and MWA for the first user. Then I marp a second dn on key 8 for the second user and give him/her pager notification when a new message is in.

When asked (and they almost always ask) why I can't activate the MW light for both DN's, I say

"MW status is based on a DN basis, but the switch sends the on/off states of the MW light to the set - not the DN - So, even if I marp both DN's - the set will only respond to the last on/off command generated by the switch - Thus the light has no relevance to the New or Checked messages in the mailboxes - The MW light (in this case) only indicates that MB A or MB B has checked their messages and that there might be a new message in one of the two mailboxes ---- So who wants to be paged when a new message arrives in their mailbox?"

I'm not sure if that's all true, but it makes sense to me....

Chas

I'm going by memory, but I believe there is a CLS LMPX (or something of the sort) that allows the XMWI key on a set to light the lamp. Anyway, I have been able to get this to work on my 3900 sets.

thanks for the suggestions, I'll give them a play and see what works best..
Also, someone mentioned something about Message waiting indicator by dn....any ideas on how this works/is built? Cant find anyting in my Merl CD (trying mnemonic MWIDN)
Cheers
PG

From the Software Features guide:
• Message Waiting Indicator by DN
Provides a separate message waiting indication for each DN on a set with a voice mailbox.
Benefit: Increases productivity at the desktop, especially useful for administrators and telecommuters.
