I teach electronics at the local community college and have been donated an ancient but fully functioning (I think) Northern Telecom SL1M. From the looks of it, I'd say the "M" stands for monstrous. Software gen 1011, rlse 17.76. The password didn't come with the equipment, and no one associated with it's previous maintenance seems to have the password on record. I'm told the PABX is so old that the usual methods of hacking in don't work. Is there someone out there who might be able to help? Thanks!

C - You'll need to contact Nortal for use of your donated SL1. There are many on the site who may know the passcode, but it's priviliged and shouldn't be passed out (hope you understand).. Hold on while I search for your contact........................................

C - I looked throughout the Nortel site (it's so hard to find specific info) and didn't see anyting that "popped" out at me..I'll keep trying and let you know if I find something. You may want to try www.nortelnetworks.com

BTW - Electronics? How did you get involved in Telecommunications - specifically SL1?

Merrry Christmas...post back and I'll assist as best as I can...

Thanks for any help you can give me. I was told that Nortel wouldn't be inclined to help me as I'm not a certified Nortel Technician. However, I will check out the web site.

As for how I got into this..... I guess I kind of fell into it. Became interested in electronics a looooong time ago, sort of by accident. Took an electronics technician program, and found I enjoyed telephony. Worked for a short time with the local telco, then was asked to come back to the college as a teacher's aid. Eventually got my instructor's diploma and started teaching electronics, starting with part time, then full time. I have no formal training in SL1s, or for than matter any PABX or KSU. Got alot of help getting started from some great industry people, and learned a little on my own.

All the best, hope to hear from you later.

This document explains the software right to use policy.

http://www.nortelnetworks.com/produc...985-040103.pdf

As you will see after reading Nortel is becoming quite strict about this and will actually be using new controlls that will be verified when ever you try to upgrade the product.

Regardless of how you "acquired" the box you will still need to get it registered with Nortel, even though the product is offically retired.

Thanks so much for your help. I will be sure to register all my donations, although I'm pretty sure I'll never be upgrading them.

You should try to have someone donate a OPT 11....

All the software and none of the space. A lot cheaper to keep up.

Well, as a matter of fact, I have been donated an opt 11-C. Would love more, but consider myself lucky to have the one. ... if anyone has any leads, please let me know.

Happy Holidaze!!!!!

I may be able to assist you. For one thing, you do not have an SL1 M. You evidently have a Meridian 1 CE shelf in an M cabinet. The SL1 M ceased to exist after Release 14. I am an Authorized Nortel Networks Distributor and can assist you with the Software License Transfer and being able to get into the machine.

Email me.
