Location: San Francisco Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Call forward help I've got a problem with an analog line. When you pick it up, it sounds like the line is open, as in in use. I checked it's STAT, and it showed busy, so I tried disabling and re-enabling it. That didn't help, so I outed it and rebuilt it. It then showed idle, but the line was still open. I tried moving it to a different TN, but no change. I have also of course tried changing out the actual phone sets, with no affect. Any suggestions?

Make sure if you are using a 66 punch down block that the bridging clips are in. Check the line cord from the jack to the phone. Take the phone to another 500 set and see if it is the phone or the jack that is the problem. Tone the jack back to your switch, make sure you are on the right pair of wires. Location: Seattle, Washington Rep Power: 6 ![]() | "Open" analog extension... An Analog port will go open because of a short on line somewhere. It's a proccess of elimination. You already moved to another port and problem followed. You already replaced set and problem followed. Now you need to starrt changing out one at a time everything that has stayed the same until you get the results you want - Most common places that you haven't tried - Line Cord Jack Jumper wire station wire pair

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | TELRAD If you've already done the easy things (change the phone / line cords, dis/enl 'ing the port), it's time to get methodical. Start at the beginning. Does it work coming out of the PBX, without a jumper attached? Does it work coming into the IDF on the feeder, without the jumper going to the station wire? Does it work at the end of the station cable with the jack detached (yes, jacks do go bad too). It's tedious, but if you go one step at a time, you always, every single time, find the problem. The art of telephony is knowing when to stop doing the likely things and switch into Methodical Man.

Location: Iceland Rep Power: 6 ![]() | New thread I agree with Tele-Thom. Start at the beginning by disconnecting the cross connection and see how the dial tone works from there. Sorry I read your mail better and since changing TN didīn work then itīs obvius that the line going to the set is damaged or the outlet is broken in some way.

Location: San Francisco Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Strangest Problem Ever ? Thanks, everyone. A short should have occured to me. Doh. The blue pair was shorted out between the punchblock and the outlet. So, all I had to do was disconnect each outlet one at a time until I isolated the bad one, then switch that to an extra pair.
