I normally don't post these as I believe your service provider should be keeping you up to date on these, but this one has such a wide base to cause potential issues that I felt compelled to get the word out.

Product Advisory Alert
Bulletin Number: PAA 2003-0410-Global
Issue: 1.0
Date: 23 November 2003

Memory Corruption When Linking Overlays 10, 11, 20 or 32 With Multi-User Login Turned On.

Problem Description

A number of symptoms have been observed when using linked overlays specific to overlay 10, 11, 20 or 32 on all releases of Meridian/Succession software R19 onwards, of which we found the root cause to be an apparent out-of-memory condition. A symptom of this problem is the small
possibility of a system warm restart with INI000 0000000F. This condition is false and is corrected by the Initialization. Other symptoms may be extremely transient, affecting only one call, or may be more persistent such as trunks that do not work correctly. Most problems will be
related to the most recently changed data at the time of initial corruption, but may persist beyond that time frame.

Analysis has shown that the overlay space is being cleared, but is going one word too far, thereby clearing the first word of the memory block after the newly allocated overlay space. This problem will only happen when multi-user login is turned on, and will only occur when using any of LD 10, 11, 20 or 32.

Expected Scope

This issue applies to all switches running any issue of X11 Release 19 onwards including Succession software.

Expected Solution

This issue has been fixed in the Succession 3.0 software release.

Recommended Action

The PEP MPLR17673 is mandatory for all customers using Multi-User Login. An INI is not mandatory after the patch is applied, but if data corruption is suspected then INI is recommended.

Fix Completion Date

This issue has been fixed in the Succession 3.0 software release.
