Rep Power: 6  | Customer has 7 OPX Circuits that he wants to connect to another site approximately 3 miles away. Nortel now calls these OPS's. I've heard that you can just termiante the circuits on an Analog Message Waiting Line Card so long as the Telco is conditioning the pairs. Nortel makes a card called the XOPS card NT1R20BA (8 Ports). Would this card be required to support the sets at the remote site or will the AMWLC suffice? The XOPS card allows you to make adjustments to the TIMP/BIMP. My understanding is you would use the NT1R20BA card if you were in a campus environment and you wanted to boost the line levels if you were exceeding the allowable loop distance (card essentially emulates the conditioning a Telco would normally provide). Last question. Regardless of the card, would the Message wait indicator light on the analog sets at the other end (or stutter dial-tone) if they don't have the visual indicator? I know that there are other products out there (MCK) that can do this, but the customer is insistan't on using the OPX and paying the associated fees for the lines. Thanks.  | ||||||||

Location: Missouri Rep Power: 6 | Fletch is correct on the MWI. If you don't have pure copper (i.e., the telco converts the signal to fiber at some point) you won't have visual MWI. Anyhow, you don't want the 100v or so that it takes to light the MWI outside your plant. Considering the XOPS vs analog MW line card, I cheat and have both in my switch (I have about 90 OPS circuits) thru telco. I've not had any lightning or other issues in the past three years. I put in two XOPS cards for some of my "troubled" circuits (I know some of mine run 4-5 miles on pure copper) to allow me to adjust loop length, etc., if needed. | ||||||||
