YOU CAN MONITOR SINGLE CHANNELS OR THE WHOLE 24 CHANNELS, HAS A SPEAKER. BUT HAS NO DCH DIAGS, BUT FOR $1200 IT'S A NICE LITTLE BOX http://www.electrodata.com/tw1.htm

Twisted - I need to monitor the signaling to eliminate finger pointing and to help the LEC do their job  Here's the link (FYI) - http://www.telinc.com/wan_tester.html

I would have say that plugging a laptop in logged into ld 60, is pretty lame. When comes to really good T-1 stats, ld 60 sucks. Look at ebay, if you can find a TPS, they good little testers. I have seen them for around 1,200. YOu may even find one that had PRI software, so that you can monitor DCH stats. Also I am seeing a lot of the old TTC 224 sets out there for 1,000 to 2,000 or so. now I am talking testers that sold new for 10 grand to 20 grand originally One probelm with PBX people is that most think the swicth has the ultimate diagnostics. Nothing beats a good installation were you are using DSX panels to manage your T-1's, instead of Rj-48c jacks. Then you can really use a test set

1) I agree that Ld 60 SUCKS and is certainly limited in it's diagnostic capabilities, but if you know the ins and outs of your system, you can gain alot of information as to possible issues with out a tester. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone on this board (we're not ALL "PBX people" you know) who would disagree, however, nothing beats a true T1 tester to really check the full span of issues, 2) I want to say that I am not "An expert in testers" (never claimed to be either, I know how to use one, but that's about it) I suggested the laptop idea as "CHEAP" means of doing basic monitoring, not the sure fire cure. Consider this: at minimum you'll pay upwards of $1200 for a good (IE: useable, but far from top of the line) tester, and around $400 for a minimal use (IE: Procom Plus or some such program) laptop. CHEAP, but not the best. Of course when it comes to ANY eqipment for ANY job/project/et al.... You GETS what ya' PAYS for! Ok...I'm done venting. :P __________________ You can't wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you - Look, if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor, just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Location: Arizona Rep Power: 7 ![]() | scott, Would recommend that the amount of money that should be spent on a T-1 tester should depend on your own experiences in dealing with carriers and the frequency with which you have service affecting T-1 problems. If you have infrequent troubles and your carrier typically resolves outages quickly, without trying to repeatedly point the finger at your equipment, then an inexpensive tester without many features will work fine. My personal experince has been that resolving T-1 outages with the carrier is much too often a battle, with the carrier trying to put the blame on our end equipment/wiring. My company has two T-BERD test sets for techs to use to resolve T-1 problems. It is, by far, the most valuable telecom tool I have ever used. You can fight with a carrier for days over a problem, swapping out CSUs, cabling, etc and the carrier will still point the finger at your stuff. Once you tell a carrier that your T-BERD is showing errors coming from THEM, the carrier ends up finding the source of the trouble, on their end, and corrects it within 15 minutes. The results obtained from a high end tester (T-BERD, Sage, Sunset) pulls a lot of weight as far as convincing a carrier that a problem lies within their network and not your equipment.
