Due to the staggered way in which our company grew we have 3 Norstar MICS Key Systems and one Nortel Meridian Option 11c PBX (all at different locations). We started with the Key systems and later went with the Option 11c for new larger site. After working with the Option 11 for a while I have found some key system features I really miss on the Option 11 that would be beneficial and save costs. The big feature we miss is involves paging. On our key system supports paging though the system sets, external speakers, or both (including zones & ability to turn off certain sets so some offices don't hear the page). Unfortunately I have been told that there is no way to do paging though the sets on the Option 11. In our initial roll out having to have external speakers, spaced out and installed has been an extra pain. As we have moved offices around and taken over more space adding more external speakers or moving existing has just gotten more of a pain and expense. We have phone sets in most every area there we need paging. Does anyone know if there are features not commonly used to support paging thought sets or is Nortel working on this feature. I truly feel this is a needed feature of the Meridian series. Another minor side gripe involves voice mail. On our Key System if your phone was ringing and you just missed the call as it went to voice mail you could Feature-987 and pull the caller out of voice mail even while they were leaving you a message. Great for times when you were rushing to get to the phone and just missed the call. I don't see anyway to do this on an Option 11. We have a Meridian Option 11c with 3900 phone sets. Using Meridian Mail voice mail, but may be considering upgrading voice mail to CallPilot in the future. I would appreciate any suggestions, ideas, or advice. thanks Alan | ||||||||

As to the paging, as far as I recall, 11c and above does not support paging through the set...Paging as a whole (i've come to discover over the years) is becoming rather antiquated in businesses, especially in locations over 50 personel. (Assuming that most large companies feel it's a distruption to others, and I'd have to agree with them). Paging it's self IS supported, but it does require external devices (meaing, NOT the phones) to do this. Sorry...but unless someone else knows of a "hack" to that, external or no paging is the way you'll need to proceed with the 11. Location: Iceland Rep Power: 7 ![]() | Just a thought, but I wouldŽn use it, If you set up some 39xx with the same DN and give them AA ( Auto Answer ), or set them up in areas and groups with different numbers but same feature. But after all a Phone system is not the same as key system or a paging system. :wink: | ||||||||

I see that bmp extensions aren't allowed, plus I've reached my Upload quota.... To set it up: [Originators Set] 1. Create a set as an originator set. Or use and existing DN on an existing set. Ensure that the DN is not a Mixed DN. 2. Add EHTA to the CLS. 2a. In my case I'm using ext: 7699 as my Originator DN.... [Destination Sets] 1. Add EHTA to the CLS for all sets that will receive the page... 2. On an available key, program HOT D 4 7699 5880 V 2a. 5880 was an Unused DN in my switch. To Use: 1. From DN 7699, dial 5880. 2. All sets that have "HOT D 4 7699 5880 V" programmed will ring once and the conversation will be heard via the speaker. Notes: pitfalls - (1) If the destination set is in use - the incoming 5880 will just ring....The person will need to physically answer. (2) you have to use/waste a key for the hotline... | ||||||||
