4.5 to 5.5 upgrade

Hi All,

We want to upgrade our cs1000s running 4.5 to 5.5.

we got a quotation for this upgrade that says ~ $13000. Isnt this too much for just an upgrade.

The reseller has mentioned the foll. in the quote
Migration to CS1000E will replace the current SSC card with new Media Gateway Controllers. The CPPM Call Servers will reside in the main chassis, we will upgrade and reuse existing signaling server as well (One signaling server currently installed per information provided). Database will migrate to the large system standard loop-shelf-card-unit format. Quote assumes existing Ethernet switch supporting this site has adequate spare ports available to support addition of media gateway controller and CPPM CS; please verify. Per layout provided, the CS can reside in the one spare slot currently available.

Can someone please help me out here to confirm if this looks ok? Do we really need the NTWB17AA System Upgrade Kit to CS 1000E CPPM - Standard Availability -R5??
Thanks.

In a 4.50 system you had an SSC card. That is now replaced with an MCG card which houses your DSP resources. The CP-PM is the new processor required for 5.00 and higher systems.

This is an upgrade that requires both hardware and software.

If you want to run 5.5 software, then this hardware upgrade is required.

Guys, I am not sure if it is mandatory to change out an SSC card if changing to Rel 5 and higher on a CS1000E, I know that Branch systems require it, but the main systems do not. I know of quite a few systems that did the upgrade and are still running SSC cards.

When you do need to upgrade is if you change the system to running CP-PM rather than CP-PIV, at this point, you need to change the SSC to MGC.

The main thing to remember is that the ISP1100 sig server needs a 512 Mb upgrade.
