what is the software version of the system...if software version is 4.5 and higher then you can get the procedure from the NTP system secuirty management Document Number: 553-3001-302.. if it is les that 4.5 then need to contact your vendor or Nortel

Also see the thread on reseting the ADMIN1 password that was just disscussed this week.

General question --

Why are folks not using LAPW's vs ADMIN1 & 2 pwd's?

Over here, it's some times used to keep track who logged on just before the system crashed. Requires daily macros to run and download history files etc to be effective. From a vendor perspective, when an engineer moves to another company, instead of changing all the Admin 1 / 2 passwords, just remove or change the one that is no longer "desired".
Also used to limit access to overlays to junior engineers, or if a customer requires PBX admin access for daily MAC's (ie you only want them to have access to LD 10/11 and 95).
That is of course the theory. In practice, the "manual override system" prevails... hey Joe Soap, what is your LOGI for this site? Mine doesn't seem to work... aha... oops.. sorry...

You get the picture

As far as changing the passwords, Element Manager makes this a snap.

As far as the LAPW, yes I agree with both the theroy and am all to aware of the actuall practice. If you expand the theroy and limit the practice LAPW's can be very useful.

EM isn't widely used over here. I have no idea why though... we live life the tough way I guess .

I find MerAssistant a useful and well written application for customers to do some self admin. Some how though I seem to be holding this flag by my self here in dark dark Africa.. ah well... where's that rescue pack at!

We reserve admin1 and admin2 for internal and Nortel support use. For everyone else we either make an LAPW or give them a PWD1 level unique login for tracking purposes.
