Location: New York Rep Power: 0 ![]() | OTM Install Hi all. We have an office where a new Opt 11 was installed. Of course the person in charge of purchasing the telecom eqiup really hasn't a clue. Seriously people, those of you that have seen me around here know I have only the smallest of clues. But this person who buys our telecom stuff... Yeah.. Really no understanding of what is needed. Anyway I have an Opt 11 with no terminal, no modem, no PC, no way at all to program. Before you tell me to hook up a PC with Procom +, remember that I am not very well versed in the language, which may as well be Chinese to me. I don't know all the LD's and all that stuff. I use OTM. So.. My question is could I simply bring a PC over there, Install OTM, connect it to the switch and make it work ? I ask this not in a 'is it possibly' way, but in a 'is this possible for me' way. I'm a Meridian newbie. I know not of the secret codes. But my IT skills are for real. I'm computer savvy. Is an install of OTM as simple as connecting a PC to the switch, installing the software, and uploading ? Does anything need to be configured ? If so, could I handle it or will I be in over my head ?

That is what that crew did, install PBXs. They had a heck-of-a-time getting it to work. Don't forget the dongle. I am sure you could do it, just don't expect it to be simple, easy, and "straight-forward". __________________ . . . Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I have alot of experinece with OTM. Started with 2.1. It is much more user friendly than using the command line for programming. If you don't know the command structure of the LD's then don't even attempt it at this point. The current version of "OTM" is now called Telephony Manager 3.1. It is web/browser based for station administration, IIS based. Making changes to new and older phones alike is rather easy compared to the command line. The PC would be loaded with the software and it would be connected to Nortels internal network (ELAN). Yes you need a Dongle as mentioned, its a USB device that is from Nortel for licensing purposes. Log onto Nortel's web site and download the following docs for a comprehensive understanding of the product: Telephony Manager 3.1 Installation and Commissioning - NN43050-300_01.05_TM31InCom Telephony Manager 3.1 System Administration - NN43050-601_01.02_TM31SA. Fair warning, if you plan to put your server on your LAN it can be an absolute BEAR to deal with. Especially if you apply and internal security templates. This software is extremly sensitive and picky! Read the documentaion carefully and follow it to the letter. If you can avoid putting on security templates then do it, you'll make your life alot less stressfull. Important note Do not load it on a Win 2003 Server R2. It will not work. I found out the hard way and had to reload the entire OS and TM 3.1 Use Win 2003 Server Standard edition and follow the the configuration in the docs to the letter. There are alsoPEPs and SU's from Nortel to update to the lastest patches and bug fixes. The web interface has a comprehensive help index covering many areas including the LD's. It's a good way to break into the command line structure.

Location: Chicago -- CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE Rep Power: 11 ![]() | Take a step back. Regardless of how I feel about OTM -- best thing to do with it is uninstall it -- if that is the method you choose to program the switch thats fine by me. If this is a new switch you'll need to program a tty port before you can do anything. I'm all for adventures in OTJ learning but I think you'd be better off paying someone to set this up for you. __________________ Dogs rollover Phones hunt

Location: New York Rep Power: 0 ![]() | The engineer who installed the switch set up TTY, and left the cable sitting there coiled up for me. I just have nothing to plug into it yet. I probably will wind up paying a vendor to install it, but it doesn't hurt to ask right ? I mean if it was possible for me to do it without too much trouble, then I would welcome the experience, and my director will appreciate the cost savings. But I know most of you will not respond on these topics other than to say : Have a vendor do it. And rightfully so... Since you all can't know the capabilities of the people asking questions here, better safe than sorry.
