I've been having problems with a lot of 3903's hanging, being disabled during midnight routines and so forth. I've been having a poke around, and couldn't come up with much other than "just reset your handset" I have lots of them dotted around the building, but the largest concentration in particular, spread across two fiber remotes have the problem.

Earlier today tho, I did a FSUM in 32 and got

I did some checks using FWVU on a random sample of 3903 handsets, and found that most of the handsets in that are are on the older firmware. Is anyone aware of any issues that were fixed in any firmware release (84 now isn't it?) that would hint at this issue, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

meridian remote access

Two things come to mind, Have you tried FDLU in LD 32 and if you´r running IRemotes on those fibers, have you tried upgrading the firmware on them.

How do you get the most recent firmware 'ON DISK'?
It looks like half of my phones need upgrading but the firmware on disk is lower than some of the newer phones I have out there.

Step Three: Updating the on switch firmware level. << Back | Next >>
The loading of new firmware onto the meridian can only be done from PDT and require a Sysload afterwards. I will not be placeing the instructions here, or emailing them to anyone. Those who need to know will know, anyone else can obtain the instructions in the normal method. - Sorry !

I went to Mr. Russell's URL and read Step Three. That is why I put up my previous post.
"The loading of new firmware onto the meridian can only be done from PDT".
What is PDT? I'm in charge of a PBX and I need to know. I'm not trying to be a jerk I just want some information/help is all. :casstet:

One way to get a 3900 firmware update is to upgrade the switch software. By looking at your FSUM output, I assume that you have either 25.10 or 25.30. Unfortunately, I can't remember what f/w version came with 25.10 or 25.30 (I have had both versions).

My switches with 25.40B have the following f/w versions:

**M3902 SUMMARY
080 - ON DISK
080 (018 ) - 000006 SETS FOUND

**M3903 SUMMARY
080 - ON DISK
080 (017 ) - 000008 SETS FOUND
052 (017 ) - 000001 SETS FOUND
000001 SETS NOT RESPONDING

**M3904 SUMMARY
083 - ON DISK
083 (083 ) - 000011 SETS FOUND
083 (024 ) - 000001 SETS FOUND

**M3905 SUMMARY
083 - ON DISK

If you have 25.10, by all means, upgrade. If you have 25.30, there may be patches out there that can help, although when we upgraded to this version, many of the 3900 problems (phones going to sleep, etc) were fixed.

PDT is the Problem Determination Tool used by engineers to access the backend VxWorks operating system of the PBX. It is used to debug problems, install patches, as well as PSDL file updates (the latter being what you need).

You have 3 choices:

Ask/Pay your maintenace vendor to do it
Pay Nortel to do it
Pay a qualified 3rd Party to do it

In any case you will not be able to perform this yourself, and you will be hard pressed to get anything further or more specific from any board about PDT.

I can tell you this though, having the new firmware on the phones, and the old on the switch will give you lots of grief! You need to either bump up the switch, then flash allof the phones, or downflash them to what your switch has now.

OPtion 11 / Cico integration - TMDI

Doing the actual upgrade is not the problem; I was just wondering if I was correct in thinking the firmware could well be the cause of the issue. I'm currently on 25.15, and as you can see the firmware "on disk" is quite old.

telecom116 has said that upgrading the firmware on his sets fixed problems with 39xx sets going to sleep, so perhaps it may be time to do it.

But if Fletch is right, and new firmware on old release will cause issues, then perhaps it's time to upgrade the whole switch...
