Can you use the "Hold" button? Or do you have to be able to hear the far end?
I know the speaker phone function has a mute key on 2616's. I didn't see a "mute" key for digital phones in the NTP's.

I need to hear far-end so on-hold is out of scope. I was just looking for some trick to put mute button on one of programmable keys

Install a headset and use the mute button on the amplifier.....or use the handsfree "mute" button.

good luck!

While on a handsfree call, simply press the "Handsfree/Mute" button. The LCD indicator will flash. Press the "Handsfree/Mute" button again to return to a two-way conversation.

Meridian Mail help

This was an interesting question - so I checked the NTP's and couldn't find any software feature that would do the trick...

I do have an Idea [Don't laugh] --- break open the phone and install a toggle switch on the Mic. Open connection would in effect be a mute - closed connection would by (2) way communication via the speakerphone....

If you have programmed the 2616 with CLS=HFA (which forces a "Handsfree" key), then the same key also provides a Mute function.
